Upgrading Sri Lanka's performance in the Global Innovation Index
National Innovation Agency is mandated to upgrade the country's status in GII as per National Innovation Agency Act, no 22 of 2019. NIA is working on setting up a “National Innovation Data portal” to gather data related to the Innovation ecosystem and to be the national focal point to supply data on innovation to global indexes
NIA Mentoring program
NIA is launching a national mentoring program annually for technology commercialization to address the commercialization gaps in government, university, cooperation, and individual stakeholders. The proposed program will be mentored by the IP experts of TISC@NIA, who are trained by the WIPO experts under WIPO remote mentoring program
Annual Survey on Technology Transfer Activities
NIA is conducting an annual survey on “Technology Transfer Activities” to identify the gaps and to facilitate the requirements for proper technology commercialization in universities, public and private research institutes
Establishing Institutional Business Linkage cells
Adopting the University Business Linkage cells, NIA is launching a national program to setup Institutional Business Linkage cells in all public research institutes to synchronize commercialization activities
Strategic Action Plan for Innovation-Driven Development in Sri Lanka: A Blueprint for the Future
Prof. Stan Kowalski from Franklin Pierce School of Law, the University of New Hampshire and his students work together with NIA to research the current situation in Sri Lanka to formulate a “Strategic Action Plan for Innovation- Driven Development in Sri Lanka: A Blueprint for the Future”.
NIA forum for Biofuels
NIA organized a Biofuel Forum to seek ways to address the current energy challenge, providing innovative, sustainable and economic solutions. As a result, NIA and DFCC bank signed an MOU to support and promote the biogas usage of the country as well as a generation of organic fertilizer, The piolet project will target the farmer communities in the Thambuththegama and Naththandiya areas.
Intellectual Property (IP )

With the support and facilitation of the World intellectual property Organization (WIPO), NIA coordinated the Institution's IP policy development program. During the phase 1, the University of Jaffna, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, National Institute of Post-Harvest Management, Rubber Research Institute were facilitated.
Patent Landscape Reports
TISC@NIA in collaboration with WIPO initiated drafting Patent Landscape Reports for Graphite and Ilmenite as an economically viable areas for the country. The study targets to provide an overview of the current situation of the potential technologies for researchers, innovators, and policymakers
